Secure global desktop (SGD)

You can maximise the benefits of Sun technology and provide total flexibility for staff by introducing Sun’s Secure Global Desktop (SGD) Software to your servers and extend your virtual charity working environment. This solution enables secure, remote access - from anywhere, at any time and from virtually any device. You can use SGD with – or without – Sun Ray displays. Applications - not just files. All staff can access applications as well as files and emails. The burden of paperwork is reduced through remote access to the charities MIS system. Secure Global Desktop is an inclusive solution for everyone. While a broadband connection is ideal, the solution can also be accessed via a 56k dial-up modem. It doesn't need the latest technology in the home either, as SGD only needs a Java-enabled web browser. This makes the solution accessible to staff with older PCs.

Choice & flexibility

Sun’s Secure Global Desktop Software follows an ‘open standards framework’ and will work with an existing Microsoft environment, as well as Linux and Solaris, and many other platforms. SGD works best where applications are centralised, and the Charity has some form of directory service for authentication. Military-grade security SGD is highly secure too, providing an excellent architecture that isolates the access server from the application and data servers. In fact, SGD is used by the military, police forces and banks.
